How can an editor in chief maximize the potential of their team to best meet deadlines?
        An editor in chief can best maximize the potential of their team by having strong leadership.

1. Planning and Setting direction

•  As a leader you have to plan how you want things to run in the class room such as making a class plan. We also have the final say in the direction we want the book to lean towards to i.e theme, color scheme, and coverage type. This also plays a part with Organizing and staffing as we have to make sure the right people are in the right places by playing with their strengths

2.  Decision-making and problem solving

• As a leader you have to have strong Decision-making skills because everyone is looking up to you and your the boss. Its important to look at the overall picture because most likely your staff can't see it. you also have to be able to have problem solving skills to solve issues that arise. 
• "Difference Between Leadership and Management: Two Sides of the Same Coin?"

3.   Motivating and inspiring people

•  A leader is responsible to make sure everyone is working but also that people are enjoying themselves because it has been proven that a happy employee works harder and better than one that doesn't like their task .
• "Building a Better Workplace: Boosting Morale"

Leadership is key in helping facilitate work so that the deadlines could be meet on time because it covers all the major components to completing the project.

blog 10: Senior Project, The Holiday

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you over the break with your senior project?

I acquired the list of schools I am going to contact and their contact information. I wrote some rough drafts of the questions I am going to ask as well. I also did some  more research and  Cornell notes .

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did and why?  What was the source of what you learned?

I believe it is important to stay on task even when no one is pressuring you to do so because then you will have less to do later. It is also very difficult gathering data. I learned to be on task.

3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers of your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

I would interview Mimi because I want to learn the importance of keeping on task as well as how to turn in deadlines on time.

Blog 9: EQ

1.    "I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."
2.  Review the following EQs and

• Tell us if it meets the rule of 3 criteria.
• Tell why it does or why it doesn't

 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
No, it is a rough EQ, because it is really vague. I would word it differently so that the question would not have just one specific answer but a wide spectrum of answers. 
 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
No, this is an EQ but it is too vague for the topic. It should be more concise that it focuses on a specific type of conviction or criminal investigation.
 c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
Yes, this EQ spotlights on a specific goal they are trying to achieve. I would have to say it could be  made more detailed  since the EQ should answer something specific.
 d.  How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
Yes,because "how" lends itself to more flexibility when answering a question. The word "how" is more open-ended. It gives us a specific goal they wish to accomplish with the question as well.


3.  Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
How manager create an efficient work place?


2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.

1. Provide the staff with a way to communicate issues and or understand the tasks given so that they can effectively accomplish the goals set out by the "company" (yearbook).
2. Help create a good working environment where everyone feels important and is not afraid to go to people and ask for help.So that the group can feel apart of the process and more willing to do work. 
3.  Provide structure to the work place. Keep deadlines meet and keep the staff working.     

3.What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
My mentors, Joan and Mimi,  have been invaluable when coming up with these answers. Also the book "Five dysfunctions of a team" and "Communication problem solver". 
4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ? 
My two mentors are Joan Pleta and Mimi Orth. I meet with Joan at Kaiser where she is a department administrator. There I go with her and talk/ listen to issues the department has and basically problem solve. With Mimi she comes in every 2 weeks or so and helps me apply the knowledge I have learned into leading yearbook. She also helps with areas of concern like meeting deadlines.

Blog 5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

  Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?
        The most positive thing that has happened I believe is yearbook starting off well but also meeting new people at my mentorship. I am glad that all the planning I did during the summer for yearbook has paid off. So far everything is going according to plan and we have been able to fix the issues that have risen in a effective manner. 

EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?
      My interview with Joan has really helped me understand the similarities between being an Co-Eic for yearbook and running a department. She has also been really good at really explaining what she does as part of the management team. by doing so she has given me a better understanding of what management does. 
What has worked for you so far in the senior project?
       I believe the biggest thing that has worked for me is connecting my mentor and what she does with yearbook/ topic. I also have found plenty of research regarding my topic and my mentors have been very generous with their time. 
 
What hasn't worked so far? 
        I think its going to be tricky really defining the connection between my two different mentors because they are from totally different jobs. As one is in yearbook and works mainly on design while the other works in medicine running a department.

For mentorship,  I plan to work with Mimi to better improve the quality of the yearbook and with my other mentor at Kaiser by helping her manage and run the Flu clinic and other related activities.
