Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

1. Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
I will be responsible for making and conducting a survey of how the Pediatric staff feels about the management direction and people. Then I will gather that data and formulate a report of my findings which I will present to my mentor. Then we will take that report and see the areas she as part of the management team can improve.

2. Discuss how or what you will do will meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.

I will have surveys which I will post the data and then have a report that has all the data. When I have finished I will post both the surveys and report on the blog.

3. And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
This benefits both my mentor and myself because I will be able to find the most important things about being in management from people who work in the real life. My report will then help my mentor improve for the next year. This component will also allow me to learn to manage the yearbook staff.

Monthly post:Flu shot season has begun!

It's is time to get your flu shot.
On Saturday (9/28) Kaiser Permanente began their annual flu clinic, in which members received the flu shot or flu mist  at no additional charge. My mentor Joan Pleta and the rest of Pediatrics organized the event. The event was held at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park starting from 8:30 am to 5pm. The event was a huge success with over a thousand people showing up and received the vaccination.

Whats the difference between the flu mist and flue shot?
This year the flu shot covers 3 strains of the virus while the flu mist covers 4 strains. The flu mist is a mist that you breath in, almost like you have water up your nose.

Why do I need a flu shot?
Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others. The “seasonal flu season” in the United States can begin as early as October and last as late as May.  When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community.

Here I am with my matching flu shot shirt and pin

My tasks at the even consisted of making copies, setting up the booths, giving out flu forms to the patients, "camera man" ( Photos of the event will be posted later. Once I have the approval), giving out stickers, counting the flu forms, restocking the nurses supplies of needles, cottons, band aids, etc. and giving out waters.

Blog 5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

Content:
The Pentagon:
Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

The most positive thing that has happened I believe is yearbook starting off well but also meeting new people at my mentorship. I am glad that all the planning I did during the summer for yearbook has paid off. So far everything is going according to plan and we have been able to fix the issues that have risen in a effective manner.

EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

My interview with Joan has really helped me understand the similarities between being an Co-Eic for yearbook and running a department. She has also been really good at really explaining what she does as part of the management team. by doing so she has given me a better understanding of what management does.
What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

I believe the biggest thing that has worked for me is connecting my mentor and what she does with yearbook/ topic. I also have found plenty of research regarding my topic and my mentors have been very generous with their time.

What hasn't worked so far?
I think its going to be tricky really defining the connection between my two different mentors because they are from totally different jobs. As one is in yearbook and works mainly on design while the other works in medicine running a department.

Finding Value:

  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?
How can being a manager best create a good working place?
*This is a really rough draft
  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
For mentorship,  I plan to work with Mimi to better improve the quality of the yearbook and with my other mentor at Kaiser by helping her manage and run the Flu clinic and other related activities.
